The President's Special Representative Discussed Kyrgyzstan's Priorities with Partners within the Framework of the Five-Year Action Plan for Mountain Region Development

The Special Representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan for Mountain Development, Dinara Kemelova, held a series of meetings with representatives of the UN system and the Secretariat of the Mountain Partnership, including the UN Resident Coordinator Antje Grawe and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Kyrgyzstan, Kim Kwang-dzhe.

According to the President's press service, Kemelova presented key priorities for Kyrgyzstan within the framework of the Decade of Action for Mountain Development for 2023–2027, highlighting the main issues faced by residents of mountainous areas, such as climate change, natural disasters, and challenging geographical conditions.

During the discussions, emphasis was placed on the main tasks of the Decade, including the updated Roadmap for 2023–2027, which includes measures to improve the lives of residents in mountainous regions, such as access to healthcare, clean water, sanitation, energy resources, digital services, and other social and economic aspects.

Kemelova also spoke about conducting a comprehensive survey covering the geographical, demographic, social, economic, and environmental characteristics of the mountainous areas of Kyrgyzstan. Additionally, she presented the initiative to establish the Bishkek Global Center for Mountain Region Resilience as an international platform for scientific and technical cooperation and access to climate financing, urging partners to actively participate in this process.

As part of the preparations for 2026, it was proposed to hold a series of thematic round tables and forums in the regions and remote mountainous areas of Kyrgyzstan aimed at enhancing the capacity of local authorities for sustainable development and conservation of mountain ecosystems.

During the meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Kim Kwang-dzhe, opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, organic agriculture, tourism, and the modernization of historical and cultural sites in mountainous regions were discussed, as well as the exchange of experience with the Republic of Korea in the development of mountainous territories.
