Uzbekistan's industrial enterprises ordered to halve emissions by December 1

The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change of Uzbekistan has issued a decree requiring industrial enterprises to halve their harmful emissions into the atmosphere by December 1 of this year. This information was announced by the committee's press service.

Enterprises that fail to comply with this requirement may face a temporary suspension of operations for up to ten working days or even liquidation by the agency's decision. Authorities also noted that failure to meet environmental obligations could lead to administrative sanctions and, in some cases, criminal liability.

In accordance with the requirements of Article 24 of the Law "On Air Protection," enterprises are required to reduce their emissions under adverse meteorological conditions.

Furthermore, in addition to urgent measures, enterprises will need to meet long-term modernization requirements, which depend on the category of environmental impact: for Category I, deadlines are set until January 1, 2026, and for Category II — until July 1, 2026.

The list of obligations includes:

the installation of automated stations that will be integrated with environmental authorities for continuous monitoring of emissions;

the installation of highly efficient gas and dust cleaning units, as well as local treatment facilities;

equipping sanitary protection zones with automated stationary observation posts.

For entities that do not meet the modernization conditions, compensatory payments for environmental pollution are provided, with tariffs increased fivefold.
