
In 2024–2025, 17 small hydropower plants will be put into operation
At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev reported an increase in electricity generation in Kyrgyzstan, which will reach 117.8 billion kWh in 2024.
According to him, in 2024, 8 small hydropower plants with a total capacity of 48.8 MW will be commissioned, and in 2025, 9 small hydropower plants with a total capacity of 49 MW.
He also noted that the modernization of the Toktogul HPP with a capacity of 1,440 MW has been completed, while the upgrade of the Tash-Korgon HPP units is ongoing. Additionally, new small hydropower plants are actively being constructed, including the Kambarata HPP-1.
“In 2026, it is planned to build 17 small hydropower plants, and in 2027 — 19 new HPPs,” said the head of the cabinet of ministers.
Furthermore, he added that energy companies have invested in the acquisition of equipment: in 2024, 129 units were purchased, and in 2025, 141 units.
