At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev announced that Kyrgyz farmers who adapt to modern irrigation methods will be provided with unprecedentedly favorable loans.
The minister stated that loans at an annual interest rate of 2% will be available over the next month for those who implement drip and sprinkler irrigation. This initiative aims to promote more efficient use of water resources in the country.
The agency also emphasizes the need to maintain ecological balance in the Pre-Issyk-Kul region. Bakyt Torobaev noted that the Issyk-Kul region must transition to modern irrigation technologies.
“Transitioning to drip irrigation will ensure a greater inflow of water into Lake Issyk-Kul. If we continue to use old methods, the water may not reach the lake,” he stressed, adding that the goal is the complete implementation of drip and sprinkler irrigation in the region.
It is worth noting that previously, under the "FSH-14" project, the standard preferential rate for agrarians was set at 6%. In this regard, the new rate of 2% for water-saving technologies will be the lowest within the framework of state support programs for farmers.
