Drip irrigation system is being launched in Batken on 143 hectares

A significant project aimed at implementing modern water-saving solutions has started in the Batken region. According to the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, the installation of a drip irrigation system has begun in the village of Zhany-Zher (Tort-Gul rural administration) on additional cultivated areas.

The work is being carried out in the irrigation zone of the R-4 canal, which is managed by the district water management department. The area of land where the new irrigation system will be applied will be 143 hectares, and active construction work started in the second decade of January 2026.

The Ministry of Agriculture highlights several key advantages of this project:

Efficient resource use: water and fertilizers are delivered directly to the roots of the plants, minimizing losses. Soil protection: the new technology helps prevent salinization and erosion of the land. Increased yield: automation of the process reduces labor costs for farmers and enhances overall productivity.

This initiative is part of the strategy to adapt Kyrgyzstan's agriculture to climate change. Given the scarcity of water resources in the Batken region, the transition to drip irrigation will create a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the local agricultural sector and ensure the effective use of new land areas.
