A new project aimed at creating climate-resilient value chains has been initiated by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). This was reported by the ministry's press service.

As part of this initiative, the government of Japan has allocated $4.5 million to support 17,000 small farmers working in three southern regions: Batken, Jalal-Abad, and Osh.

These regions were chosen due to their high vulnerability to climate change and water resource scarcity.

Key Areas of Support

The project will focus on increasing productivity and strengthening agricultural cooperatives. The project includes providing rural producers with the necessary resources:

The project is being implemented with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Mirbek Duyshiev noted that this partnership is aimed at supporting small farmers and aligns with national priorities for agricultural development until 2030.

Japanese Ambassador Hirano Ryuichi emphasized that the project will contribute to strengthening the food system in the country and ensuring the economic stability of rural communities in the face of climate change.

Japan continues to be a strategic partner of the UN WFP in Kyrgyzstan, previously providing emergency assistance and supporting projects aimed at developing human capital.
