In January 2026, the foreign trade turnover of Kyrgyzstan amounted to $1 billion 52.9 million. According to data from the National Statistical Committee, this figure increased by 2% compared to January 2025.

Decrease in Export Volumes

As in the previous year, at the beginning of 2026, there was a significant decrease in export shipments, which fell by 20.3% to only $126.8 million.

Imports, on the other hand, increased by 6.1%, reaching $926.1 million.

Kyrgyzstan continues to be highly dependent on imports, which account for 88% of the country's total trade turnover.

Reasons for the Decrease in Export Volumes

Since the beginning of 2026, the government of Kyrgyzstan has again imposed restrictions on the export of a number of goods, including scrap metal, waste paper, and livestock.

In addition, changes in regulations in Russia have created difficulties for Kyrgyz exporters, including tailors, which affected the supply of products to the Russian Federation. Authorities in the country reported in February that these issues were partially resolved.

Trade with the EAEU

The situation in trade with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union looks more positive. In January 2026, trade turnover with the EAEU amounted to $396.8 million, which is 11.3% more than in January 2024. However, there is also a trade imbalance here:

In the overall trade turnover of the country, mutual trade with the EAEU accounted for 37.7%, in exports — 45.4%, and in imports — 36.6%.

The largest part of mutual trade within the union consists of supplies from Russia (68.6%) and Kazakhstan (29%).
