Bishkek's grocery basket as of March 21. What has increased the most in price
This week in Bishkek, there has been an increase in prices for tomatoes, apples, pears, milk, eggs, and vegetable oil, while buckwheat, potatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, and cabbage have become cheaper.

As a result, the price of the minimum grocery set has increased by 375 soms and amounted to 7,665 soms.

We conduct weekly price monitoring in one supermarket, recording the cost of the same set of products. Below is the complete information about the composition of the basket and the reasons for price changes.

Prices may vary between supermarkets and markets. Stores often have promotional items with discounts.

According to our data, since the beginning of the experiment in late October 2018, the price of the grocery basket has increased by 4,395 soms. Since the beginning of this year, the cost has increased by 942 soms, and compared to the same period last year — by 1,521 soms.

Bread remains the most affordable product in our basket, while fresh vegetables and fruits significantly affect the overall cost. Their fluctuations are mainly responsible for price changes.

In 2025, the grocery basket increased in price by 686 soms. The lowest cost was recorded on October 18 — 5,791 soms, while on December 6, the price reached a maximum of 6,927 soms.

The nutritional standards for citizens of Kyrgyzstan were approved by the government in 2009, according to which each person should consume nine types of products monthly.

The established norm includes: 9 kg of bread products, 5 kg of meat, 8.2 kg of potatoes, 9 kg of vegetables, 10 kg of fruits and berries, 2 kg of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, and 200 grams of tea.

Considering the minimum standards set by the state, we assessed how much the consumer basket costs for a family of four. The prices of products were taken from one of the supermarkets in Bishkek, where many city residents prefer to shop.

It is worth noting that the calculations are approximate and based on official norms. Food consumption can vary significantly depending on preferences and diet, so our basket should be regarded as a social experiment by 24.kg.

Bread products include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family represents an average household, so the choice of fruits is limited to apples and bananas, and among vegetables — onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes. The basket contains nothing superfluous — only the most necessary goods.
