During a plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, Bolotbek Borbiev emphasized the issue of poaching, particularly in the Toktogul Reservoir. He noted that the use of banned Chinese synthetic nets poses a serious threat to the fish stocks in this region.
In response to the inquiry, the Department of the Fishery Complex of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry announced the start of a major plan for restocking water bodies. According to Cabinet Resolution No. 636, introduced on October 6, 2025, with the aim of imposing a moratorium on commercial fish catch, a significant number of carp (common carp) fry will be released into five reservoirs of the country in October 2026. In particular, the Toktogul Reservoir will lead in restocking, receiving 150,000 fry. The Kirov Reservoir will receive 100,000 fry, the Bazar-Korgon Reservoir will get 10,000, while the Shamaldy-Say and Tash-Kumyr reservoirs will each be replenished with 5,000 individuals.
In addition to restoring fish stocks, government agencies are strengthening control over water resources. The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, conducts regular raids on major reservoirs such as Toktogul, Bazar-Korgon, and Kurp-Say. The main goal of these activities is to curb illegal fishing and combat poaching gear that harms the ecology of the republic.
