In the Kyrgyz Republic, the implementation of an ambitious program aimed at improving the infrastructure of rural settlements has begun. The Department of Drinking Water Supply and Wastewater, operating under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, plans to introduce new water supply systems in 773 villages across the country starting in 2026. The goal of the program is to provide the population with quality drinking water and modern wastewater systems.
The work is divided into several key stages, depending on the readiness of the facilities. Currently, construction and installation work is actively underway in 120 villages. At the same time, for 229 settlements, design and preparation of project documentation is taking place, which will create a foundation for future construction. Additionally, tender procedures for the procurement of construction services are ongoing for 27 villages.
A significant amount of work is focused on the preparatory stages: for 219 villages, the necessary data for design is being collected, and for 95 of them, all required documents have already been prepared. Furthermore, specialists are developing a feasibility study for 177 villages. This phased approach to the implementation of the program will allow for the gradual commissioning of new water supply systems, which will contribute to the sustainable development of regions and improve the quality of life in rural areas.
