Bishkek's grocery basket as of March 28. Pears have become more expensive, while vegetables have become cheaper
This week in Bishkek, there is an increase in prices only for pears. At the same time, products such as bread, potatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, carrots, apples, and milk have become cheaper.

As a result, the minimum set of products has decreased by 216 soms, totaling 7,449 soms.

We visit the same supermarket weekly to monitor prices for a fixed set of products. Below is complete information about which products were included in our basket and why.

Prices may vary between supermarkets and markets. Stores often have products on special promotions and discounts.

Analysis shows that since the beginning of our monitoring in late October 2018, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by 4,179 soms. Since the beginning of this year, it has increased by 726 soms, and compared to the same period in 2025, it has risen by 1,227 soms.

Bread remains the most affordable product in our set. The cost of the basket fluctuates significantly depending on the prices of fresh vegetables and fruits, which have the greatest impact on the overall cost.

In 2025, the cost of the grocery basket increased by 686 soms. The lowest price was recorded on October 18 – 5,791 soms, while the highest was on December 6, totaling 6,927 soms.

The nutritional standards for citizens of Kyrgyzstan were established back in 2009. According to this document, every resident of the country must consume nine types of products monthly.

The established norm includes: 9 kilograms of bread products, 5 kilograms of meat, 8.2 kilograms of potatoes, 9 kilograms of vegetables, 10 kilograms of fruits and berries, 2 kilograms of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, and 200 grams of tea.

Based on the minimum norm established by the state, we calculated the cost of the consumer basket for a family of four. Prices of products from one of the supermarkets in Bishkek were used for the calculation. Recently, many city residents prefer to shop in large stores.

It should be noted that the data on product consumption is approximate and based on the approved state norms. Each person has their own preferences in food and consumption volumes. Therefore, our basket should not be considered the only correct one. It is more of a social experiment from 24.kg.

Bread products include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family is average in composition, so it prefers apples and bananas for fruits, and onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes for vegetables. There are no unnecessary items in the basket – only the essentials.
