Attending the solemn event were the mayor of Osh, Jenishbek Toktorbaev, the Minister of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva, as well as vice-mayors and local residents.
The street named after Abai Kunanbaev is 4 kilometers long. A monument has been erected in his honor, and the surrounding area has been landscaped. A museum dedicated to the poet's cultural heritage has also been opened.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Toktorbaev emphasized the fraternal ties between the Kyrgyz and Kazakh peoples, calling this day significant.
“Today we have gathered on a day of historical importance for Kyrgyz-Kazakh relations. This is not just the opening of a street, but a day that symbolizes the centuries-old friendship and cultural unity of our two nations. We are naming the new street in Osh after the great poet A. Kunanbaev,” he noted.

Turmush reported on September 10 that during the session of the city council, 37 deputies supported the project to rename Volgograd Street, with no votes against.
It was noted that the new street will bear the name of the Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbaev.

Earlier, Turmush reported that on August 27, Volgograd Street was opened in Osh after major repairs.
“The length of the street is 2 kilometers and 200 meters, and its width is 22 meters. All sidewalks will be completed. The street connects Gapar Aitieva Street and Osmonov Street. The construction of 100 kilometers of roads will be completed by October 20,” the mayor added.
According to reports, the road construction in Osh is financed from the republican budget in the amount of 2 billion soms. These funds will also be used for the repair of seven other major streets.
