Today, December 10, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov held a meeting with the Ombudsman Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the UN in 1948.

According to the president's press service, Sadyr Japarov congratulated the Institute of Ombudsman on Human Rights Day, emphasizing the critical importance of the work of human rights defenders in protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens.

The head of state emphasized that this year the Constitutional Law "On the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic" was adopted. He added that the functions of the National Center for the Prevention of Torture are now integrated into the Institute of Ombudsman, which eliminates duplication and strengthens the mechanism for protecting human rights in the country. The president expressed support for further strengthening the independence of the Ombudsman in accordance with the Paris Principles.

Sadyr Japarov confirmed the priority of the policy to prevent torture and cruel treatment, emphasizing the need to improve cooperation with state bodies. He instructed the Ombudsman to take on a coordinating role in this direction.

During the meeting, Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva informed the president about the current affairs of the Institute of Ombudsman, noting the increase in the level of implementation of recommendations and improved interaction with state institutions and international partners.

At the end of the meeting, President Sadyr Japarov gave a number of instructions to the authorities regarding staffing and financial support, transportation for official needs, and the work of regional offices to enhance the potential and independence of the Institute of Ombudsman.
