Dastan Sagynbek uulu, a 31-year-old resident of the village of Ak-Jar in the Talas region, plays as a defender for the team "Yntymak." A Turmush correspondent spoke with him.

He joined the team for the game of kok-boru in 2019.

“My father was a ulakchi, and from an early age, I became interested in horseback riding, learning from more experienced players. Later, we started playing this discipline with friends. I joined the 'Yntymak' team in 2019 and have been playing as a defender since then,” Dastan shared.

Although many consider this game dangerous, for us, it has become a routine. At first, it was just a hobby, but now, with the great responsibility on our shoulders, we approach each match with seriousness. Before games, my mother always blesses me, and my brothers help with choosing and preparing the horse. My wife was initially worried about my safety, but now she fully supports me after seeing my dedication to this cause and accepting my choice.

During matches, various incidents occur. Sometimes injuries can nullify all the preparation. For example, there was once a misunderstanding among the fans that led to a riot, and we had to hide with the horses in the barn. I believe this game is a part of our culture and the traditions of the Kyrgyz people.

In the future, I hope my son will continue the family traditions. He is already showing interest, although he is still small. They say that those who follow in their father's footsteps do not stray from the path. I learned many aspects of the game and tactics from my father,” he added.

In their family, Dastan and his wife are raising two children—a son and a daughter.
