In a recent interview on NOMAD TV, retired Colonel and former Deputy Head of the GKNB and Chairman of the Veterans Council of the special service, Zamirbek Cholponbaev, shared his views on the changes in the work of the State Committee for National Security over the past few years.
With over 40 years of experience in security agencies, Cholponbaev noted that he is pleased to see tangible progress in the work of the GKNB. According to him, significant systemic changes and developments have occurred in all aspects of the committee's activities during this time.
Zamirbek Cholponbaev emphasized that in recent years, considerable efforts have been directed towards improving infrastructure. Under the leadership of Kamchybek Tashiev, numerous GKNB facilities have been built and modernized across the country, including both regional offices and the central apparatus. He noted that previously, employees in the regions often worked in unsuitable conditions, whereas now they are provided with modern workspaces.
He also pointed out the growing trust in the GKNB from society. If in the early years of independence there was a decline in trust towards the special services, now, according to Cholponbaev, citizens see concrete successes in the fight against organized crime, corruption, and in ensuring national security.
Moreover, he noted that the expansion of the GKNB's powers meets modern challenges and is carried out within the framework of current legislation. Currently, the committee is dealing with issues directly related to state security, including in the economic, energy, and food sectors.
Separately, Cholponbaev spoke about a recent meeting of veterans of the special services of CIS countries in Kyrgyzstan. Representatives from the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, the FSB, as well as veterans from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan participated in the event. During their visit, they familiarized themselves with the central office of the GKNB and noted that there are no similarly equipped buildings in other countries of the region.
In conclusion, Zamirbek Cholponbaev summarized that the activities of the GKNB in recent years are characterized by stable development, strengthening of institutional foundations, and restoration of respect from society.
