As Politico points out, this chat has become a sought-after tool for exchanging information and coordinating positions in response to Trump's sharp actions, which may be perceived in Europe as destabilizing. Sources from the publication emphasize that this format of communication is particularly useful when events unfold rapidly and traditional diplomacy cannot keep up with the changes.

According to the publication, the chat, named the "Washington Group," emerged as a result of European leaders' visit to the White House in August of last year, during which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was also present. Zelensky also participates in discussions in this chat.

Throughout the year, European leaders have shown restraint, reacting only to specific actions by the United States, which has facilitated coordination on Ukraine issues and the work of the "coalition of the willing." However, as sources from Politico note, events surrounding Greenland and Trump's threats of imposing tariffs have become a turning point, after which calls for a tougher and more independent stance in relations with Washington have intensified in discussions.

The publication also emphasizes that informal contacts between leaders are already going beyond operational responses to Trump's statements and are gradually forming the basis for broader coordination in security and foreign policy. According to Politico's interlocutors, this format of communication could have a significant impact in the event of further weakening of the U.S. role as the main guarantor of European security.
