The initiator of this event was Azhibek Aiylchiev, the head of the regional public association "Internat-1969".
Among those present at the ceremony were the akim of the Aitmatov district state administration Nurlanbek Umarov, his deputy Saltanat Mambetova, representatives of the "Internat-1969" association, heads of ayil okmotu, as well as relatives of those who perished and employees of district institutions.
Participants laid flowers at the monument commemorating the victims in the form of flying cranes and honored their memory with a moment of silence. After that, a prayer was said in honor of the deceased children and adolescents.
Akim Nurlanbek Umarov expressed gratitude to Bolot Abildaev for the installation of the monument and the improvement of the surrounding area, emphasizing the importance of preventing the recurrence of such tragedies.
Azhibek Aiylchiev noted that this event became one of the saddest pages in history, adding that many graduates of the boarding school made significant contributions to the development of their country over the years.
Turmush previously reported that on February 4, 1969, a fire broke out in the boarding school of the village of Kyzyl-Adyr, resulting in the deaths of 43 people, including 39 students. The educational institution accepted children from remote villages whose parents worked in livestock farming.
Oscon Charginov, a member of the "1969" association, noted that the causes of the fire in the two-story building of the boarding school remain a topic of discussion. Of the 39 children who died, 11 were boys and 28 were girls. One family lost three children in this tragic incident. He added that the association organizes memorial events annually, and this year, with the support of the local budget, work has begun on a project to install a monument in the central park.
