At the forum "Agrodialog," held on February 18, university student Asema Azamatova presented data on the yield potential of okra in Kyrgyzstan. With the proper selection of variety and adherence to agronomic recommendations, the yield can reach up to 800 kg per 10 ares.

Azamatova emphasized that okra has high nutritional value and stable demand in international markets, making it a promising agricultural crop. She noted that okra is low in calories and rich in vitamins A and C, as well as important minerals such as potassium and calcium. Under appropriate agronomic conditions in Kyrgyzstan, yields of up to 800 kg per 10 ares can be achieved, while in more developed countries, this figure reaches 4 tons.

According to the specialist, okra prefers a warm climate and grows best in the southern regions of the country, such as Batken, Osh, and Jalal-Abad regions, as well as in some areas of Chui region. Although the plant does not require a strictly defined soil type, optimal results are achieved in loose and well-drained soils with neutral pH.

For sowing on a plot of 10 ares, about 1.5–2 kg of seeds are needed. Okra can be used both fresh and for processing, including freezing, drying, and canning.

Additionally, among the main global producers of okra, Asia stands out, particularly India, which holds leading positions in production volume. The harvested products are mainly exported to countries in the Middle East and Europe, opening up prospects for the development of the export sector in Kyrgyzstan as well.

Note: Okra is an annual, heat-loving, and drought-resistant plant with a powerful root system. Wild varieties growing in their natural habitat have a taproot that penetrates the soil to a depth of 1-1.5 meters.
