This year's theme is "Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future," highlighting the relevance of the issue.
The Republican Center for Strengthening Health reminds that antimicrobial resistance poses one of the most serious threats to the healthcare system.
Improper use of antibiotics leads to the following consequences:
- microbes develop resistance;
- infections become more difficult to treat, requiring the use of more powerful medications;
- the number of complications and fatalities increases worldwide.
Key points to remember:
Antibiotics are agents that kill bacteria or slow their reproduction. However, they are ineffective against viruses, including ARVI and influenza.
Responsible use of antibiotics is the responsibility of each of us:
- take antibiotics only as prescribed by a doctor;
- complete the full course of treatment;
- avoid self-medication;
- do not request antibiotics "just in case."
