In Kyrgyzstan, the Most Effective Method of Surgical Treatment for Prostate Adenoma Has Been Identified
In the journal "Healthcare of Kyrgyzstan," a paper by Dr. N. Monolov was published, in which he conducted a comparative analysis of various surgical treatment methods for prostate adenoma.
In his study, Dr. Monolov noted that although monopolar transurethral resection of the prostate has long been considered the "gold standard," this approach does not always lead to the complete removal of hyperplastic tissue. This, in turn, increases the likelihood of recurrence and difficulties with urination.
Specialists conducted a retrospective study in which they examined the results of surgeries on 320 patients. Various surgical techniques were analyzed: monopolar TURP, bipolar plasmakinetic enucleation, and holmium laser enucleation of the prostate. Both intraoperative indicators and the frequency of complications were assessed, as well as the improvement of clinical symptoms over the year following the intervention.
The study showed that enucleation techniques proved to be more effective and radical compared to traditional resection. The highest results were achieved with the use of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate, which provided maximum improvement in functional indicators: urine flow increased by 3.1 times, while the level of complications remained at a minimal level.
It is also worth noting that laser enucleation significantly reduced hospitalization times — on average to 2.3 days.
In conclusion of his study, the specialist concluded that holmium laser enucleation is the safest, most effective, and radical method of surgical treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia, especially in patients with a large prostate volume. He recommends considering this approach as a new "gold standard" in the treatment of this condition.
