In Kyrgyzstan, a comprehensive assessment of the quality of care for patients with hypertension and diabetes was conducted, focusing on primary healthcare institutions.

The study, according to information from the Ministry of Health's press service, covered 1,996 patients suffering from arterial hypertension and 1,101 individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Their outpatient records were also analyzed.

The results of the study revealed significant issues with treatment adherence: only 38% of patients with hypertension and just 43% of type 2 diabetics regularly take their prescribed medications.

Many of them miss doctor visits, undergo fewer tests, and sometimes adjust their treatment on their own.

Among type 2 diabetics, 76% know their blood sugar levels, but only 23% have an understanding of glycated hemoglobin, which is an important indicator of disease control. In 79% of them, the glycated hemoglobin level is elevated, indicating insufficient control of the therapeutic process. At the same time, among patients with arterial hypertension, 77% regularly measure their blood pressure; however, 44% still have high readings. More than 90% are unaware of their cholesterol levels—a key indicator of cardiovascular disease risk.

It should be noted that the National Center for Cardiology and Therapy has developed a program aimed at the prevention and control of arterial hypertension in Kyrgyzstan for the years 2026-2030. The main goal of this initiative is to create an accessible and effective system for the early detection and management of hypertension.
