Medical workers and representatives of associations in Kyrgyzstan have appealed to President Sadyr Japarov with a request to place nephrologist N.B. under house arrest. At a press conference held on February 19 by AKIpress, they presented their version of the events related to the treatment of the patient.

Doctor N.B. was detained on February 18 and placed in a temporary detention facility following a complaint from citizen Z.S. regarding a possible medical error that occurred at the National Center for Maternal and Child Health.

President of the Kyrgyz Medical Association Akpai Sarybaev emphasized that the doctor has a family and will not flee, so the case can be investigated without arrest.

“The situation is extremely complex and ambiguous. Under such circumstances, one person does not make a decision about treatment. Usually, qualified specialists gather to discuss the situation together and make a decision. In two inspections, no fault was found with the doctors, but doubts arose in the third. We urge the president to consider this issue objectively and temporarily release the doctor under house arrest,” Sarybaev noted.

Chief Physician of the NCMMCH Aina Jetibaeva spoke about the case and the patient. According to her, the girl, born in 2011, was hospitalized on October 11, 2024, with a diagnosis of glomerulonephritis, pronounced edema, and the presence of free fluid in the abdominal cavity. From the first day, all necessary diagnostic and therapeutic measures were carried out.

On the third day, October 14, 2024, the diagnosis was confirmed: acute glomerulonephritis with nephrotic syndrome. Necessary examinations and treatments were conducted.

On November 21, 2024, an expanded consultation took place, which included a vascular surgeon, a representative from the Ministry of Health, the girl’s parents, and the patient herself. The consultation decided to continue conservative treatment.

On November 23, amputation of the right leg at the thigh level was proposed, but the parents refused this procedure.

At the initiative of the relatives, the girl was transferred to Turkey on November 25, 2024, where a decision was made to amputate part of the lower limb.

The first consideration of the case took place at the GKNB following a complaint from mother S.Z.R. in July-August 2025. A repeated complaint to the GUV led to a judicial examination by the Ministry of Health in September-October 2025. Both bodies issued their decisions.

Starting in January 2026, a new comprehensive forensic medical examination was initiated in the case, initiated by the GUV at the request of mother S.Z.R.

Representative of the Medical Trade Union of Kyrgyzstan Bermet Baryktabasova expressed regret over the suffering caused to the girl. “However, there was no need for such harsh measures as detention at the workplace and custody,” she noted, adding that they plan to appeal to the Constitutional Court to protect the rights of the doctor.
