From December 22 to 24, Earth is expected to experience a deterioration in geomagnetic conditions caused by the influence of a coronal hole. This warning was issued by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, according to information provided by TASS.
“From Monday to Wednesday, geomagnetic conditions will be disturbed due to a large coronal gap,” the message states.
The shape of the coronal hole is quite complex, making the forecast for geomagnetic activity in the coming days unstable. “If plasma flows come from the middle part of the hole, where significant gaps are observed, we may face moderate disturbances. However, if the plasma flow descends from the upper area of the 'solid blackness', this could lead to prolonged storms at the G2 level,” the specialists add.
Overall, the level of geomagnetic activity is assessed as moderate, according to experts.
