According to information published by DW, EASA strongly recommends that airlines avoid flights in Iranian airspace. This warning applies to all altitudes.

The regulator noted that in light of the current geopolitical tensions and potential military escalation by the United States, Iran has activated its air defense forces. This, according to EASA, creates a risk of misidentification of aerial objects in Iranian airspace.

Furthermore, the presence and potential use of various types of weapons and air defense systems, as well as the unpredictable response of the authorities, may pose a serious threat to civilian flights at any altitude.

The agency also warned that in the event of U.S. military intervention in Iran, retaliatory actions from the Islamic Republic against American targets in the region could be expected, which may increase risks for the airspace of neighboring countries where American military bases are located.

Earlier, the Al Hadath channel reported on the Iranian authorities' order to close airspace near the border with Iraq, which sparked rumors of a possible airstrike by the U.S., according to the dpa agency.

The White House press secretary emphasized that only the president makes decisions on this matter, and only a limited number of advisors are aware of the plans.

Amid the worsening situation, the Ukrainian embassy in Iran announced the suspension of its activities, noting that information about the resumption of operations will be provided later.

Protests in Iran began in late December 2025 due to the deteriorating economic situation, but soon evolved into demands for political reforms, including calls for the resignation of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to the human rights organization HRANA, at least 544 people have died during the protests, and more than 10,600 participants have been detained.
