The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic to refrain from traveling to Iran

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic strongly recommends its citizens to temporarily refrain from traveling to Iran. This is due to the worsening situation, in particular, the cancellation and alteration of international flight schedules, as well as restrictions on crossing land borders.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as of January 16, 2026, most airlines have changed their routes or suspended flights to and from Iran. In case of inability to leave by plane, citizens are advised to consider alternative land routes through neighboring countries.

For citizens of Kyrgyzstan, entry into Armenia and Turkey is allowed without visas. However, to cross the border with Turkmenistan, it is necessary to contact the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in advance to obtain permission and a transit visa.

Currently, the only open routes for leaving Iran are the border crossings with Afghanistan and Iraq. For this, a visa must be obtained from the diplomatic missions of these countries.

The land borders of Iran with Azerbaijan and Pakistan are currently closed.

Citizens in need of assistance in leaving Iran are advised to send the following information to the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Tehran or to the Consular Department: full name, contact details, a photograph of the passport page, and the intended border crossing point.
