The Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned its citizens against traveling to Iran and provided information on how Kyrgyz nationals currently in the country can leave. According to the ministry, many international airlines are either reducing or temporarily suspending their flights to Iran, leading to constant changes in flight schedules.
In a situation where air travel is impossible, it is recommended to use land routes through neighboring countries. It is important to note that Kyrgyz citizens do not need a visa to enter Armenia and Turkey.
However, for visiting Turkmenistan, it is necessary to contact the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Ashgabat in advance for assistance in obtaining an entry permit and transit visa.
As of January 16, 2026, border crossing points at the Iran-Afghanistan and Iran-Iraq borders are operational. If you plan to travel to these countries, it is advisable to apply for a visa in advance at the relevant diplomatic missions.
The ministry also advises considering alternative routes for departure, but it should be noted that the borders of Iran with Pakistan and Azerbaijan are currently closed for passage.
Kyrgyz citizens who need assistance to leave Iran are recommended to provide the following information to the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Iran or to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic:
- last name, first name, patronymic, and contact details;
- a photograph of the passport page with personal data;
- the intended border crossing point.
Those planning to visit Iran in the near future are strongly advised to postpone their trips until the situation stabilizes.
