Telegram is accused of ignoring demands to remove extremist content
According to information from Russian media, Pavel Durov may face suspicions of aiding terrorist activities.
The grounds for this are complaints against the Telegram platform, which, according to Russian authorities, did not comply with orders to remove prohibited content.
Some sources report that Telegram did not remove over 10,500 channels containing calls for extremism, as well as 1,125 channels related to materials from extremist and terrorist groups.
Additionally, 1,369 channels, chats, and bots related to child pornography were not blocked, along with 3,771 channels distributing drugs, 2,666 channels with suicide themes, and 2,124 channels where, according to law enforcement data, minors were involved in illegal activities.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB, since 2022, Telegram has been mentioned in the context of approximately 153,000 crimes, of which about 33,000 relate to extremism and terrorism.
If the accusations are confirmed, Durov may face a prison sentence ranging from eight years to life imprisonment.
