“The servicemen of Mongolia, carrying out tasks within the framework of the UN peacekeeping mission UNMISS, are responsibly ensuring the protection of the civilian population in the Abyei region, southern Sudan,” reports MiddleAsianNews.

Since February 14, 2026, in an unstable environment, over 1000 citizens sought protection at the base, and by February 27, an additional 400 joined them, among whom were many elderly people and children. Thus, the servicemen of Mongolia are providing protection for more than 1400 civilians.

Among the residents seeking protection was a pregnant woman ready to give birth. The camp doctor, Senior Lieutenant Tserenlkham Tserendorj, and nurse, Junior Sergeant Uuganbayar Dashdorj, demonstrated a high level of professionalism and successfully assisted the woman in giving birth.
This work confirms that the servicemen of Mongolia act responsibly and professionally, ensuring the safety of citizens and providing humanitarian assistance in accordance with their peacekeeping tasks.

The 15th company of the Armed Forces of Mongolia, consisting of more than 800 servicemen, began its mission in South Sudan in September 2025 as part of the UNMISS program.

As of March 1, 2026, the United Nations expressed concern over the resurgence of violence in the Abiemnom area and called for necessary measures to stabilize the situation.
