As part of the relations and cooperation between the Ministries of Defense of Mongolia and the French Republic, a training course on "Women, Peace, and Security: Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Situations" is organized on December 3 and 4, 2025.
The classes were conducted by French trainer Major Sabrina Zitouni, and were attended by officials responsible for gender issues from the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Armed Forces Command, military units, and organizations.
At the beginning of the event, Brigadier General Gandirvaa Chuluunbor, head of the Department of Strategic Policy and Planning of the Ministry of Defense, emphasized the importance of training officers based on French experience. He highlighted that human rights and gender equality are priority areas of France's foreign policy, which is particularly relevant in the context of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and France.
The General added that the Armed Forces of Mongolia, actively participating in UN peacekeeping missions, must possess deep knowledge in international humanitarian law and human rights.
He also urged the officers and leaders participating in the training to promote the creation of gender-oriented workplaces and support a zero-tolerance policy towards gender-based violence, wishing them success in their training.
The courses cover topics such as "Principles, Values, and Discipline of UN Peacekeeping Operations," "Women, Peace, and Security in the Context of International Humanitarian Law," "Protection from Sexual Violence in Conflict Situations," and "Sexual Exploitation and Abuse."
Additionally, November 25 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. On this day, the government of Unity State in South Sudan, together with the Ministry of Gender Equality and other partners, launched a 16-day campaign against gender-based violence.
At the event, 25 women peacekeepers from the 15th Motorized Rifle Battalion of the Mongolian Armed Forces, participating in the UNMISS peacekeeping mission, demonstrated hand-to-hand combat skills.
The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of all forms of violence, improve conditions for protecting victims, and increase gender sensitivity among the population. The activities will continue until December 10.
