Doctors from the seventh rotation of the Level 2 Field Hospital in Vietnam (L2FH) successfully performed an Achilles tendon repair surgery for a senior officer from Mongolia.

This was the third surgery performed at the hospital in a month since its deployment as part of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

The senior commander of the Mongolian contingent suffered a complete rupture of his left Achilles tendon during a confrontation. After thorough diagnostics and consultation, he expressed full trust in the Vietnamese doctors and requested the surgery to be performed at the 7 L2FH field hospital to facilitate further treatment and resume his official duties.

Since the surgery required complex medical intervention, approval was needed from the Force Medical Officer (FMO). After completing all necessary procedures and obtaining permission, the FMO consented to perform the surgery at the field hospital.

The surgery was conducted under the supervision of the director of the 7 L2FH rotation, Tran Duc Tai.

The surgical team successfully repaired the torn tendon sections in less than an hour, using a modified Krakow suture technique, which ensured reliable fixation with minimal blood loss and correct anatomical alignment for optimal recovery.

The operation was carried out under strict aseptic conditions using modern anesthesia, resuscitation, and infection control systems.

After the surgery, the Mongolian officer was transferred to the intensive care unit for close monitoring. Dr. Chan Duc Tai personally examined the patient, provided postoperative care, and gave recommendations for early rehabilitation to ensure proper healing of the tendon and a quick return to official duties.

Currently, the patient's condition is stable, the wound is clean and healing well, and there is a steady recovery of function.

As of September 22, since its deployment, the 7 L2FH rotation has admitted and examined 200 patients, performed three surgeries, of which two were emergency surgeries and one was for Achilles tendon repair; one aeromedical evacuation was also carried out.

These achievements confirm the professionalism, dedication, and noble aspirations of the Vietnamese "blue beret" medics who bring values of peace and humanity to Africa.
