A climate and ecology summit for Central Asia will be held in Astana


In the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, the Regional Ecological Summit 2026 will take place from April 22 to 24, 2026. This event is organized by the government of Kazakhstan in collaboration with international and regional partners.

Under the slogan "A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future," the summit will bring together experts, leaders, and representatives of international organizations from both the region and around the world. Over three days, high-level plenary sessions and more than 20 various thematic and country-specific sessions are planned.

The key speaker at the summit is expected to be the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In addition, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, and the President of Mongolia, Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, will also participate.

Invited guests will include high-ranking representatives of international organizations, including the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Liu Zhenmin, the Secretary-General of the OSCE, Helga Schmid, the Director-General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, Celeste Saulo, and the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Doreen Bogdan-Martin.

The organizers emphasize that the summit will serve as an important platform for discussing climate and ecological risks that affect economic stability, population security, and long-term development in Central Asia. Key topics will include water resource scarcity, glacier melting, land degradation, loss of biodiversity, and increasing pressure on water and land resources.

Participants will discuss ways to enhance regional cooperation, attract climate financing, strengthen early warning systems, and improve the resilience of energy, water, and food systems.

The summit program includes eight key thematic areas.

Among them are the green transition from ambitions to concrete actions, increasing resilience to climate change, effective management of natural resources, ensuring water and food security, mechanisms for achieving environmental goals, a fair and inclusive transition, as well as the use of technology, education, and digital solutions to create a sustainable future.

According to the organizers, the Regional Ecological Summit could become a permanent international platform for strategic dialogue and coordination of efforts among countries in the region in the fields of ecology, climate, and sustainable development.
