President Lee Jae-myung stated: “I deeply regret that certain individuals have committed such provocative actions against North Korea.” These words, as reported by the Yonhap agency, were spoken at a cabinet meeting, where he characterized such actions as unacceptable.
According to the Chosun newspaper, this was the first time that the President of South Korea publicly expressed regret to North Korea regarding the drone incident. On March 1, he emphasized that the intrusion of drones into North Korean territory poses a “serious threat to peace on the Korean Peninsula.” In January, he also noted that launching drones towards North Korea could be seen as the beginning of military actions.
Last week, the South Korean prosecution charged three individuals who had been launching drones across the border from September 2025 to January 2026. Among the accused are a 30-year-old graduate student, an employee of the National Intelligence Service, and a military officer.
