The convict in the 'Krokus' terrorist case committed suicide

According to "RIA Novosti" and the publication "Kommersant," the suicide was committed by 37-year-old Yakubdzhoni Yusufzoda.

According to media reports, the tragic incident occurred in the Moscow pre-trial detention center "Matrosskaya Tishina." The inmate was taken to a medical facility, but the doctors were unable to save him.

RBC clarifies that the incident became known thanks to surveillance cameras. The press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service added that a preliminary investigation is underway regarding this fact.

As RIA Novosti learned from the case materials, the financing of the terrorist act in "Krokus" was carried out through Yusufzoda's bank card, of which he claimed to have no knowledge. He was a participant in a channel that promoted radical Islamic movements and followed the instructions of the administrator of that community. Soon after the terrorist act, Yusufzoda attempted to fly abroad, approaching Vnukovo Airport with a request to book a ticket for the nearest flight, but was detained at passport control.

On March 12, the 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced Yusufzoda and 14 other defendants to life imprisonment. Four other defendants received prison sentences ranging from 19 years and 11 months to 22.5 years.

The terrorist act at "Krokus City Hall" occurred on March 22, 2024, when armed individuals opened fire on the audience at a concert by the band "Piknik." As a result, 147 people died, three went missing, 336 were injured, and more than 600 were recognized as victims.
