Lee Jae-myung expressed his regrets regarding the incident that occurred on March 31, when drones crossed the border into North Korea. Kim Yo-jong noted that Pyongyang viewed the apology as a "promising and wise" decision. Kim Jong Un, in turn, characterized the actions of the President of South Korea as "the behavior of an honest and generous person."
However, Kim Yo-jong warned Seoul, stating that as long as South Korea continues its "reckless provocations against the DPRK," talks of peace and stability will be nothing but empty words. She warned that if such actions were repeated, North Korea would not leave it without consequences, and Seoul would pay an "inconceivably high price."
The incident was classified as an "individual deviation" by the joint military-police operational group (JPOG). Lee Jae-myung expressed regret over the launch of private drones towards North Korea, noting that the government did not intend to provoke such tension.
“I express regret over the unnecessary military tension caused by irresponsible actions,” Lee stated at a cabinet meeting. In January, South Korea's Minister of Unification Jeong Dong-yong also expressed regret over the intrusion of drones from South Korea into North Korean airspace and promised to tighten penalties for such actions.
