The investigation suggests that S.K.O. used his official powers to exert pressure on convicts who were awaiting probation or fines. He demanded a sum of $2000, threatening to otherwise petition the court to change the punishment to imprisonment.
The GKNB emphasized that such actions by the suspect seriously undermine citizens' trust in government authorities.
On February 1, GKNB employees, together with the security department of the General Prosecutor's Office, detained the deputy prosecutor at the crime scene while he was accepting part of the extorted amount – 140,000 soms.
At present, the suspect has been placed in the temporary detention facility of the GKNB, and the investigation is ongoing to identify other possible accomplices in this crime.
