According to Mash, one of the drones exploded near an educational institution in the village of Shekerabad, located in the Babek district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The walls in the premises collapsed, and at the time of the attack, there were no people in the classrooms.
The "Arash" drone is a combat unmanned aerial vehicle with a flight range of 1 to 2 thousand kilometers and a warhead weight of 260 kilograms.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan emphasized that it reserves the right to take retaliatory measures and issued a sharp statement regarding the incident.
In connection with the attack by the Iranian drone, the Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, was urgently summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry noted that it intends to take necessary measures in response to the strikes on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
As a result of the attack, one drone hit the terminal building at the airport in Nakhchivan, while another fell near a school in Shekerabad. As a result, airport buildings were damaged, and two civilians were injured.
“We strongly condemn the unacceptable actions of the drones carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which led to damage and injuries. This attack on the territory of Azerbaijan is a clear violation of international law and contributes to increasing tensions in the region,” the official statement said.
Azerbaijan demands an urgent explanation of the situation from Iran, a thorough investigation, and measures to prevent similar attacks in the future. The statement also emphasizes Azerbaijan's right to retaliatory actions.
