Origin of the Park
Neighborhood activists told the editorial team of Kaktus.media that many years ago, this area was so well-maintained that mushrooms could be gathered here. However, since 2005, when a wave of land grabs and development of green spaces began in the country, this park has become a target for various developers.Promises from Authorities and Reality
The area is currently in a neglected state. Stray dogs roam the park, and old sofas used by the homeless are scattered everywhere.Local residents have appealed to deputies and the mayor's office, asking for the remaining part of the park to be improved.
“In the neighborhoods of ‘Archa-Beshik’, ‘Ak-Orgo’, and on the streets of Krivonosova and Ayni, there are no green spaces. There are only residential buildings, destroyed roads, and dust. Elderly people find it hard to breathe. People cannot walk, and children are deprived of a place to play. This park is the only green corner in our area. We have repeatedly contacted the akimat, and at first, we were told that there were no funds in the budget and we needed to wait. In 2024, we met with Mayor Aibek Junushaliev, where we raised this issue again. We were informed that 18 million soms had been allocated for improvement, and they even showed us sketches with benches, streetlights, and sidewalks. We were full of hope. But spring, summer, and autumn have passed, and nothing has changed,” local residents say.
Plans for Developing the Football Field
The situation changed when it became known that permission for construction in this part of the park had still not been obtained. Moreover, the mayor's office plans to auction part of the territory to attract an investor who will handle the improvement. According to local residents, a potential investor has already been found, preparing to build a football field, parking, and shops. This could mean that the green area will be significantly reduced.City dwellers emphasize that it is impossible to ignore the ecological situation in Bishkek: green spaces are becoming fewer, air pollution levels are rising, and breathing is becoming more difficult. Residents also remind that in the new general plan, one of the priority tasks is to increase green zones. Therefore, the authorities' decision regarding the park surprises them.
Local residents are asking the mayor's office to abandon the idea of transferring the plot to an investor, to keep this land in municipal ownership, and to restore its original green appearance.
“Officials constantly talk about a ‘green city’ and a ‘green republic,’ but we, ordinary citizens, are fighting the real battle for every tree. We appeal to President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Japarov and the head of the GKNB Kamchybek Kydyrshaevich Tashiev to pay attention to our situation. We have been fighting for this park for many years. Hear us! Leave the park for the citizens and take care of its improvement!” residents urge.
