GSIN: Currently, more than 500 defendants in pre-trial detention have voted in the elections
The press service of the State Penitentiary Service (GSIN) reported that as part of the electoral process in the Kyrgyz Republic, more than 500 defendants in pre-trial detention facilities have already exercised their right to vote.

According to the agency, the electoral campaign is being conducted in strict accordance with the law in all regional pre-trial detention facilities. Necessary measures have been organized in each of them to ensure the rights of defendants and staff to participate in the elections.

Remote polling stations have been established in each regional pre-trial detention facility, allowing detainees and staff to vote at their registered addresses under equal conditions. To ensure the transparency of the elections, monitoring by state authorities is provided in each facility.

In Institution No. 21 of the GSIN (SIZO-1), work on participation in the elections has also been successfully organized. Here, remote polling station No. 9112 is functioning, where all conditions for voting have been created for citizens in detention and staff who are performing their duties in an enhanced mode.

Oversight of the legality and transparency of the electoral process is carried out by several controlling bodies, including:
— a representative of the prosecutor's office, monitoring compliance with legislation in institutions of the penal enforcement system;
— two representatives from the Ombudsman Institute of the Kyrgyz Republic.

These bodies check compliance with the voting regulations, the conformity of the electoral process with established norms, and ensure the opportunity for each voter to freely express their will.

To date, more than 150 staff members and over 500 defendants have already voted, thereby expressing their civic position. All requirements for order, security, and voting procedures are fully adhered to in the institutions.

The GSIN considers ensuring the constitutional rights of all citizens participating in the elections to be its top priority and will continue this work in all institutions across the country.
