Zhumagul Musaeva, one of the first female pilots of Kyrgyzstan, is known not only for her achievements in aviation but also as an important figure in the history of the country. Shahida Seydalieva, an employee of the local history museum in the Kochkor district, spoke about her life and contributions.

In 1922, Zhumagul Musaeva was born in the village of Ortok (formerly Ak-Kuduk).

She was married to Kalynur Usunbekov, a hero of the Great Patriotic War and a major general.

According to Sh. Seydalieva, Zhumagul lost her parents at a young age and lived in a boarding school in Frunze from the age of 12. After finishing school, she enrolled in a workers' faculty. In 1938, she joined the Frunze flying club and learned to parachute, making a total of 312 jumps.

September 1940 was a significant month for her: she took to the skies for the first time in an airplane. After her fourth flight, she was awarded the qualification of a pilot, and on the U-2 aircraft, she made 147 flights. Unfortunately, her request to participate in the war was declined.

In 1942, she joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and graduated with honors from the institute.

Zhumagul met her future husband through a newspaper, and during the war, they exchanged letters.

Kalynur wrote poems that were published in the republican newspaper "Kyzyl-Kyrgyzstan." Soon, Zhumagul responded to his poems, and thus their correspondence began. They met in Frunze in the summer of 1947 and soon got married, after which they continued their studies in Moscow.

Kalynur studied at the Military Law Academy of the USSR, while Zhumagul pursued her postgraduate studies at the Institute of Geography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
From 1951 to 1954, she served as the director of the Kyrgyz Women's Pedagogical Institute, later being transferred to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan.

On March 21, 1955, she was awarded the degree of Candidate of Geographical Sciences by the decision of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

From 1959 until the end of her life, she worked as a senior researcher at the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR. After her death in 1985, a collection of Kyrgyz folk fables prepared by the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR was published.

She was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan and a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR. Zhumagul Musaeva passed away in May 1980 at the age of 58. Together with her husband, they raised three children.
