In Kyrgyzstan, a discussion has been initiated regarding a draft law that proposes amendments to the Law on Civil Status Acts.

According to the draft law, Article 31 will be supplemented with a provision allowing for the recognition of changes to surnames, first names, and patronymics made outside the country, provided there are corresponding official documents from the competent authorities of foreign states.

If the draft is adopted, the civil registry offices will be granted the authority to make changes to previously registered civil status records in Kyrgyzstan. Citizens will be issued a new certificate of state registration, or the document will be sent for processing through the competent authorities of another country.

This initiative is aimed at simplifying procedures for Kyrgyz citizens abroad and harmonizing national legislation with international standards.
