On the site of the landfill that had been polluting Bishkek for over fifty years, a new waste processing plant is now operational. The first phase of its operation was launched in early December of this year. Delegates from various regions who came to the Kurultai were able to familiarize themselves with the operation of this plant, which occupies almost 12 hectares.

The director of the solid waste processing plant, Zhyn Hy, reported that depending on the volume of incoming waste, the plant currently generates up to 25 MW of electricity per hour, and this capacity is planned to be increased. He also explained the sequence of the processing process.

“The waste cleaning process goes through four stages. First, nitrogen gas is treated with ammonia water, then acids are neutralized using lime. In the next stage, activated carbon removes heavy metals and unpleasant odors, and finally, the remaining particles are filtered before being released into the atmosphere,” said the plant director.

The plant is located on the bypass road within the sanitary landfill area, which reduces transportation costs for waste. This project is significant for improving the environmental situation in Bishkek, reducing waste volumes, and increasing the energy independence of the capital.
