Currently, more than 1,500 citizens of Kyrgyzstan are abroad, serving sentences in prisons, of which about a thousand inmates are located in Russia. This was announced by the deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, Baktyar Kalpaev, at a parliamentary meeting.

The deputy emphasized that it is necessary to bring these people back to their homeland, as there is a risk that they may be involved in terrorist organizations. "Some of them have been waiting for their extradition for several years, sometimes up to ten years. The protection of our compatriots should be a priority for the state," he added.

Earlier, Deputy Attorney General Umutkan Konkubaeva reported that 1,210 Kyrgyz citizens are currently serving sentences in Russian prisons. According to her information, in 2024, 128 citizens convicted abroad were returned to Kyrgyzstan, of which 118 were from Russia. In 2025, this number increased to 221, and decisions have already been made regarding 124 Kyrgyz citizens, with their transfer expected.
