Russia refused to transfer 144 convicted citizens of Kyrgyzstan back to their homeland

The Deputy Attorney General Umutkan Konkubaeva reported that Russia has denied the transfer of 144 citizens of Kyrgyzstan who are serving sentences in prisons back to their homeland. This became known during a meeting of the parliamentary committee dealing with issues of the judicial system, law enforcement, combating crime, and corruption.

More than 1,200 citizens of Kyrgyzstan are serving sentences in Russian prisons.

According to Konkubaeva, the Kyrgyz side sent 449 requests to Russia for the transfer of convicted individuals. However, in 144 cases, Russian authorities refused, citing non-compliance of the requests with the conditions of the existing agreement or stating that the individuals in question were convicted of serious and particularly serious crimes, including murder.

She also noted that the issue of establishing a prosecutor's office representative in the Russian Federation had been discussed earlier. However, the problem of funding, particularly the payment of salaries to employees, remains unresolved.
