An expert urges authorities to intensify actions in this direction
The situation regarding housing provision in Bishkek raises serious concerns. This was stated by Irina Grishechkina, Deputy Director of the Scientific Research Institute of Prospective Urban Development, at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on industrial policy, transport, fuel and energy complex, architecture, and construction.
On average, there are only 14 square meters of living space per resident of the capital.
“Considering the expected population growth to 1.92 million people, which is 600,000 more, it is necessary to increase housing provision to 23 square meters per person. To achieve this goal, about 26 million square meters of total area will be required. Meanwhile, the total construction in Bishkek is only 18 million square meters,” she noted.
It is worth mentioning that the Scientific Research Institute of Prospective Urban Development has developed a master plan for Bishkek until 2050 at the request of the city administration.
