Irina Grishechkina: Bishkek Lacks Kindergartens, Schools, and Hospitals
The public hearings in Bishkek have concluded, where the main parameters of the new General Plan for the city's development until 2050 were discussed. This project sparked active discussion among residents.
The discussions took place over two days: on the first day, issues concerning the Lenin and Pervomaisky districts were addressed, while on the second day, the Oktobersky and Sverdlovsky districts were discussed.
The event was attended by Bishkek's Vice Mayor Azamat Kadyrov, Deputy Head of "Bishkekglavarchitectura" Aziret Akimov, as well as specialists from the Saint Petersburg Research Institute who were involved in the development of the General Plan, and numerous residents of the capital.
According to the organizers, more than 400 people participated in the discussions.
At the hearings, Irina Grishechkina, representing the development team, emphasized that the General Plan covers many aspects and takes into account the territorial and social characteristics of the city.
She noted that Bishkek has an attractive geographical location for tourists; however, the fault limits the possibility of development in the southern part of the city. She also mentioned that the territory of state ownership does not allow for the active construction of social facilities, and there is a noticeable increase in point high-rise construction in the city.
Grishechkina reported that there are about 300 cultural heritage sites in Bishkek, of which almost 50% have already been lost.
She emphasized the importance of preserving the city's history.
Furthermore, Grishechkina pointed out that the social infrastructure of the capital significantly lags behind the needs of its residents. For instance, only 30% of children are provided with places in kindergartens, and about 300,000 children are on the waiting list. A similar situation is observed in the education sector: the lack of schools is also a problem. In hospitals and emergency stations, the provision rate is only 35%, sports halls are accessible to only 58%, and swimming pools are available to just 10%, which is extremely low for a capital city.
