A group of students from Bangladesh studying at the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy and Salymbekov University faced serious difficulties in obtaining visas. They stated to Kaktus.media that they decided to transfer to the International European University, following all necessary legal and administrative procedures. However, as a result, their student visas issued during their studies at the previous universities were canceled without any notifications.

What is the problem?

On a summer day in 2025, 12 students from Bangladesh made an academic transfer, but according to them, the process led to unexpected consequences. The visas they received at KSMU and Salymbekov University were canceled without explanations.

The students noted that this forced them to leave Kyrgyzstan and return to their homeland. They are currently unable to continue their studies, as new invitations or student visas have not been provided, despite having positive academic results. "This situation threatens our education, career, and financial well-being," they emphasized.

They also pointed out the importance of medical education, which requires time, and that a prolonged break could lead to the loss of academic years, increasing the financial burden on families and causing serious stress for the students.

According to the students, they fulfilled all necessary academic and legal requirements but continue to face difficulties due to visa issues that arose in August. "We have been studying in Kyrgyzstan for two years and have never encountered anything like this before. Visa processing and extensions have always been handled by the universities. Now we don't know how to apply for a visa. Students cannot do this without a university registration number," they added.

The students appealed to the administration of the International European University for help in resolving their visa issues so they could return and continue their studies.

Comment from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed Kaktus.media that, according to Kyrgyz legislation on external migration, visa processing for study and its extension occurs only at the request of the educational institution inviting the foreign student.

According to the Law "On External Migration," the initiator of the invitation is responsible for the legality of the foreign student's stay in the country. In the event of termination of studies (including transfer to another educational institution), it is necessary to cancel the existing visa.

After the foreign student leaves, the educational institution where they studied must send a corresponding request for visa cancellation.

Only after completing this procedure can a new visa be issued based on the invitation from another educational institution where the student intends to continue their studies.

Response from the International European University

Kaktus.media sent a request to the International European University on December 26, asking to confirm whether the process of transferring the students from Bangladesh had been completed and to find out if documents for obtaining visas had been submitted. The request was repeated on January 12, but no response has been received yet.
