Astronomers from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute for Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences and meteorologists are predicting strong magnetic storms at levels G3-G4 on Earth, caused by an X-class solar flare recorded on January 18.

The first such flare this year resulted in a coronal mass ejection heading towards our planet, and it is expected to trigger a G3-G4 magnetic storm on January 20. These levels, according to international classification, denote "strong" and "very strong" geomagnetic activity.

These magnetic storms can negatively affect people's health, especially those who are sensitive to weather changes, and can disrupt the functioning of satellites, communication systems, and power grids. Disruptions in radio communications and navigation systems are possible.

Experts emphasize that such solar flares and the associated geomagnetic disturbances are becoming increasingly frequent against the backdrop of current solar activity, and they recommend paying attention to space weather forecasts.
