The resolution draft proposed by Russia did not receive the approval of the UN Security Council, which was unable to support the call for a ceasefire in the context of the conflict in the Middle East.

The voting showed that only four countries voted in favor of the resolution: Russia, China, Pakistan, and Somalia. At the same time, nine countries abstained from voting, while the United States and Latvia voted decisively against it.

For the resolution to be adopted, it is necessary for at least nine members of the Security Council to vote in favor, without a veto from the permanent members (the USA, Russia, China, the UK, and France).

The document presented by Russia includes four main provisions. It calls for an immediate cessation of all military actions and urges restraint from further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and beyond. The resolution also condemns attacks on civilians and infrastructure, calling for their protection in accordance with international norms. The text emphasizes the importance of ensuring the security of all states in the region and strongly recommends returning to negotiations using political and diplomatic tools.

Since February 28, the United States and Israel have continued military operations against Iran, targeting major cities, including the capital of the country. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported conducting retaliatory operations aimed at targets in Israel. Strikes have also been carried out against American facilities in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. As a result of the attacks on Iran, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials were killed. The escalation of the conflict in the Middle East continues.
