On March 11, the Jogorku Kenesh voted for the second reading of the Law "On State Awards, Honorary Titles, and State Prizes of the Kyrgyz Republic."

Before the vote, Deputy Kamila Talieva addressed President Sadyr Japarov with a request to preserve titles such as People's Poet, Honored Doctor, and Honored Teacher.

Japarov noted that there was previously a practice of selling titles for amounts ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 dollars. He also mentioned cases where individuals who had performed only two songs became people's artists, while many elders and teachers who had worked hard in their fields remained without awards. As a result of the audit, such situations were identified, and 200-300 people were awarded.

According to the president, the administration proposed to reduce the number of titles from 47 to 20, leaving the parliament the right to further change this number, even reducing it to ten.

According to the approved bill, honorary titles will be awarded to both citizens of Kyrgyzstan and foreigners or stateless persons for their outstanding contributions to the development of various sectors.

State prizes will be awarded to citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic for significant discoveries and scientific achievements, as well as for outstanding creative works.
