According to local residents, the relocation of livestock markets in the Chui region has caused dissatisfaction among some farmers and businessmen. They express doubts about the reasonableness of the decisions made by the regional authorities and point to potential security threats.

Turmush reported that on March 26, a meeting took place in Tokmok between representatives of government agencies and local self-government with residents of the eastern part of the Chui region (including Kemin, Chui, Issyk-Ata, and Alamedin districts). This event was organized at the direction of President Sadyr Japarov to quickly address existing issues.

The greatest concern among villagers is the financial damage and the unsafe location of the new market in Chym-Korgon. One resident noted: “After the closure of the market in Tokmok, a project for a new livestock market was launched in the village of Vinogradnoe. Many entrepreneurs invested about 200,000 soms in containers and setup. Now our investments are at risk. We were told that the market was closed due to its location along an important bypass road, but the new market was moved to Chym-Korgon — again to the roadside of the same road. Where is the logic?”

Residents are also worried that the new market is located near a dangerous fast-flowing river. “There, the water speed reaches 80 km/h, and the volume is 50–60 cubic meters per second. People, after a successful sale of livestock, may lose vigilance. If someone falls from the bridge, there is no chance of survival. The body will only be found in Tokmok,” one villager emphasized.

Villagers are convinced that 19 hectares in Vinogradnoe is a more suitable and safe place for the new market. They argue that if the funds allocated for Chym-Korgon had been directed to their village, the market would already be successful.

The Akim of the Chui district, Emilbek Abdykadyrov, supported the opinion about the prospects of the site in Vinogradnoe. “I believe that the market in this village has enormous potential. As for the market in Chym-Korgon, I cannot comment. We have already sent a request to the governor to study this issue,” he stated.

The head of the Chui region's police department, Kanybek Abdyrahmanov, noted that there were no proper conditions for the operation of the livestock market in Tokmok. “For many years, traders from the Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions came here, but conditions were not created. Tourists pass through this road, and on weekends it is impossible to drive through. Therefore, the market was closed and relocated. We are considering issues regarding the markets in Chym-Korgon and Vinogradnoe. It is necessary to create conditions,” he added.

Turmush reported at the end of January 2026 that after the opening of the new livestock market in Chym-Korgon, thousands of people — sellers from all districts of Chui, Naryn, and Issyk-Kul regions — arrived there.

According to the head of the Chym-Korgon Ayil Okmotu, Almaz Dubanaev, about 10,000 people visited the market on January 25. “The livestock market in the Chym-Korgon Ayil district is already functioning, all necessary conditions for trade have been created on the territory, and all requirements are being met. Safety and public order are ensured, and police officers are constantly present,” he noted.

All relevant services are monitoring to ensure that the market operates safely and organized. The number of visitors who came to sell and buy livestock was about 10,000 people, and the number of vehicles was approximately 2,000. Because of this, the parking area could not accommodate all the cars,” he added.

Turmush reported in December 2025 that the livestock market in Tokmok will be relocated, and modern multifunctional facilities are planned to be built in its place.

The livestock market in Tokmok was one of the largest in northern Kyrgyzstan and served as an important trading center for the sale of various animals, including cows, sheep, horses, and bulls.

Inspections revealed that the existing market did not meet sanitary, veterinary, and urban planning standards. Its location near the road and residential areas poses dangers to the safety, sanitary condition, and comfort of residents.

In this regard, a decision was made to relocate the market to another place — close to the current location but away from the main road and residential houses. The mayor of the city noted that this would ensure safety and convenience for both traders and local residents.

The mayor also emphasized that the territory of the current livestock market has potential for urban development. In the future, it is planned to attract investors and implement various projects on this site.

The project includes the construction of multifunctional buildings and the creation of a business space focused on technology and innovation.

According to the municipality, at the new livestock market, the city administration plans to create the necessary conditions: modern infrastructure, compliance with sanitary and veterinary standards, as well as comfort and safety for all participants in trade.

Representatives of the Chui district administration reported that the new livestock market, which will be relocated from Tokmok, is planned to be built in the eastern part of the village of Vinogradnoe in the Chui district. “However, at the moment we cannot provide exact data on the area of the site and the timeline for the start of work. The project is in the planning stage, and complete information will be available after all necessary procedures are completed,” they said.

Traders engaged in livestock sales noted that the Tokmok market had one important advantage. “If the new market is located not too far from the road and the conditions meet the standards, we will get used to the new place. But the Tokmok market had convenience: there were food and spontaneous markets nearby where you could immediately buy something. Now, after selling livestock, we will have to go to Tokmok,” they shared.

Turmush previously reported that as of January 1, 2026, the private livestock market in Tokmok will be closed. Inspections revealed that the market operated on a commercial basis, charging fees for the placement of animals.

At the same time, the market owners did not provide the necessary investments for infrastructure development.

The closure was prompted by systematic violations of sanitary and veterinary standards, as well as non-compliance with safety requirements.

Despite repeated warnings, the owners did not take measures to eliminate the violations.
